It was a day for favourites at the Banwen Point to Point Club's Bank Holiday meeting as five of the six races were taken by the odds on favourites, as a large crowd came to Llwyn Ddu for the wonderful atmosphere and another fantastic days racing.

It was a treble on the day for Carmarthenshire's Ben Jones as he continues his rich vein of form this season. The first of his wins came in the Confined Hunts Race aboard Gunshy for trainer Tom Faulkner, making it two wins from the 11yo's only two starts between the flags. This also gave Tom his 10th success of the season so far. The 7/2 chance Moreece, ridden by Luca Morgan finished 2nd only beaten two lengths. With Mr Sawyer a further four lengths back in 3rd with Bradley Gibbs on Board.

Following on from his win at Lydstep the weekend previous the 4/9 favourite Moral Hazzard took the Mens Open by four lengths, ridden by current leading Welsh Champion Rider, Bradley Gibbs. Walkabout Creek ran tremendously well to finish 2nd for Ben Jones.

The fastest time of the day came unsurprisingly in the Ladies Open where a delighted Anna Lewis, aboard Tiger Rag just managed to hold on from 4/7 favourite Patricktom Boru and Jodie Hughes who certainly weren't going to go down without a fight as they finished ½ a length behind in 2nd in a time of 5 minutes 15. First season rider Georgia Kemeys had a great spin to finish 3rd aboard Beneficial Joe. 18yr old Anna was over the moon to see the chestnut gelding Tiger Rag return to his usual form and give her, her first winner of the season.

The evens favourite French Piece looked impressive when taking the Restricted under Byron Moorcroft by two lengths back to Gowell, trained by Tom Faulkner and ridden by Ben Jones, who ran on incredibly well at the end. The Lydstep Maiden winner Airpur Desbois finished 10 lengths back in 3rd for jockey James King.

The Amber Mathias trained Midnight Folie made it three from three under regular pilot Ben Jones when taking the Intermediate race in fine style by 20 lengths back to Ruperra Tom and Jack Tudor in 2nd.

The last race of the day saw Amber Mathias and Ben Jones team up once again to take the Open Maiden impressively with Ardview Boy, who had been unlucky to slip up on the bend last time out when running well. The pair kicked on from the ditch and absolutely flew, leaving Morehurrylesshaste and Jodie Hughes 25 lengths back in 2nd and Persaverance a further 10 lengths back in 3rd for Mark Robinson.

A big thank you is owed to the small team of dedicated organisers and supporters who worked incredibly hard to keep this fixture going and provided excellent safe ground on the day, despite the dry weather in the weeks leading up to the meeting.

The West Wales season finale draws ever closer as we head to Trecoed on the 1st of June in what as always, promises to be a great days racing and the unique friendly atmosphere of Welsh point to pointing. There will be pony racing, trade stands, a licensed bar and a live band. Not to mention the biggest and best after party in Wales!
