Saturday 28th April 2018
by Donna Harris

Trebudannon situated near St Columb Major in Cornwall, is where the re-arranged Point-to-Point meeting is to be hosted by The Four Burrow takes place this Saturday 28th April. There are seven races on offer with 82 entries received. The first race is due off at 2:00pm.

The R & J Trevarthen-sponsored Cornish National Men's Open race is the feature of the day which has attracted prolific winning horses Dicky Bob, a winner of 12 Points so far including recent wins at Kilworthy and Cherrybrook for trainer Verity Nicholls, Sobre Tresor already on a hat-trick of wins this season at the Wadebridge meetings for the Chloe Newman team, Navanman a winner of the 4-mile Mixed Open at Flete for trainer John Heard under jockey Rex Dingle, and Robin de Souza a winner of nine Points to date for team Summersby. Jockey Rex Dingle has won on both Dicky Bob and Navanman recently and could be an indicator in the outcome of this race.

Sobre Tresor also holds an entry in the PR Weldhen Plant Hire-sponsored Ladies Open race which connections may prefer as a better option, although of the five entries Double Captain out of trainer Katherine Hawkes yard, could be the main danger having scored in two out of his four runs with wins at Buckfastleigh and Wadebridge.

Local owner Ross Oliver has Awesome Tunes entered in the opening Care & Company-sponsored Members race, a winner of this race last season under jockey Will Biddick could be among the favourites. With Go Dee Go (Keith Cumings) runner up here last season and Winter Garden (Ryan Chapman) a previous course winner here also likely to figure high in the betting arena.

This is a popular meeting for young maiden horses and the two Open Maiden races have attracted good entries with those catching the eye in the first Maiden race for four to six year-olds, sponsored by Ray Davies Foods, are Earthly Reason for team Big Brook looking to follow up on his second at Wadebridge, and Flete Park runner-up The Coffee Hunter for trainer Colin Heard. Whilst Florabell who is now trained in North Cornwall by Ian Hambley and has two previous runner-up places to her credit is the eye catcher in the second Open Maiden race, along with Daylami Days for Heidi Lewis and Lee Drowne after a previous runner up at this track. This race is sponsored by Truro Tractors.

The Exeter Racecourse-sponsored Intermediate race holds entries from the Ed Walker-trained Inch Rock seeking a season win which could prove testing under top weight, Prince of Poets (John Heard/Rex Dingle combination) a runner-up at Cherrybrook and Kilworthy, and dual Larkhill runner-up V-Neck for the Stuart Sampson team will ensure a competitive race.

The Restricted race is sponsored by Conway Baily and holds entries from Larkhill maiden winner Who Told You for the Ed Walker team who has the benefit of a mares weight allowance, and Larkhill winner Sixteen Letters holding the hopes of the Big Brook team.

This venue offers a lovely amphitheatre type setting, offering good viewing of the course, attracting a good picnic crowd, with on course facilities offering fabulous food, hot and cold refreshments, along with bar, bookies and trade stands. Entrance to the course is £10 per person, with children under 16 free. Dogs on leads welcome. Location is at St Columb Major, (signed off A30 and A39 – TR9 4LP).
